About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate invention disclosures and assess their patentability, strategic relevance, and alignment with business objectives
- Participate in the development and execution of overall intellectual property protection strategies across different technology areas
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in collaboration with inventors and external legal partners
- Prepare responses to office actions (examination reports) and contribute to decisions related to prosecution strategies
- Manage and track patent portfolio activities, deadlines, filings, and associated management systems
- Work closely with engineering and R&D teams to identify and protect high-value strategic innovations
- Liaise with external law firms and foreign correspondents across various jurisdictions
- Contribute to patent-related analyses, including freedom-to-operate studies and potential infringement assessments
- Participate in continuous improvement of processes, practices, and activities for optimizing the intellectual property portfolio
- Monitor emerging technologies, market trends, and intellectual property developments relevant to EXFO’s business areas
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, telecommunications, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent management, intellectual property, or related activities within a technology environment
- Experience in telecommunications, networking, software, photonics, electronics, or related technology industries is considered a significant asset
- Patent agent qualification is considered a significant asset
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary environments
- Fluency in both French and English, spoken and written
