About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning aligned with the agency’s growth objectives.
  • Track revenue, margins, and project/client profitability.
  • Analyze key metrics (utilization rate, billable rates, project performance).
  • Advise leadership on the financial implications of strategic decisions.
  • Prepare accurate, timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee monthly and annual closings, reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Implement and/or optimize tools and systems to improve financial visibility and efficiency (e.g., project time tracking, financial dashboards).
  • Manage and review routine operating expenses, payroll, and payments to subcontractors.
  • Review expense reports.
  • Perform general bookkeeping and reporting.
  • Collaborate with project managers and department heads to improve processes and resource allocation.
  • Manage financial relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA designation is an asset).
  • More than 5 years of experience in finance/accounting; experience in a digital agency or professional services firm is strongly preferred.
  • Good knowledge of taxation in Canada and Quebec (knowledge of U.S. tax is an asset).
  • Strong proficiency with Google Sheets or similar tools.
  • Interest in continuous process improvement and exploring tools (e.g., ChatGPT).
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero, Dex) and project management tools (Redmine, Float, Notion, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Collaborative mindset.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of project-based accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Fluency in English and French (French is a significant asset).
