About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conducting thorough asbestos analysis and maintaining laboratory accreditations whilst adhering to strict quality assurance standards
  • Perform bulk identification, asbestos in soil analysis (both P/A and S/Q), and fibre counting in the laboratory
  • Ensure equipment and compliance systems are maintained in accordance with ISO standards
  • Adhere to the conditions of ISO 17025 at all times
  • Assist with technical and quality tasks as required
  • Act as a training mentor for internal staff
  • Participate in internal and third-party proficiency testing programmes and ensure satisfactory results are achieved
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and procedures
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all analyses and tests performed
  • Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines and quality standards
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in asbestos analysis techniques and safety regulations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Tertiary qualification in Science or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience in asbestos analysis, including bulk identification, fibre counting, and soil analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 17025 standards and their application in a laboratory setting
  • Proficiency in using standard office applications, particularly MS Word and MS Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of accuracy in all work
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to health and safety regulations
  • Desire to continually learn and improve professional skills and knowledge
  • Experience as a Key Technical Person (KTP) for asbestos analytical methods is highly desirable
  • Qualifications or experience as an asbestos consultant would be advantageous
  • Familiarity with relevant New Zealand health and safety regulations related to asbestos handling and analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
