About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support development of utility-scale battery energy storage projects from early-stage development through NTP and EPC handoff
- Organize and execute engineering activities during early, mid, and late-stage development
- Develop preliminary project design basis documents and preliminary site designs
- Coordinate vendor technical specifications for energy storage technology
- Develop technical scopes of work and specifications for consulting, contracting, and EPC services
- Review consulting, contracting, and equipment vendor proposals and engineering deliverables
- Develop technical specifications for BESS, EMS, main power transformers, and HV breakers
- Provide engineering inputs to interconnection applications, studies, permitting applications, and offtake proposals
- Participate in internal and external project team meetings
- Compile technical documentation and exhibits for EPC handoff and RFP packages
- Improve development engineering standards and practices using lessons learned from downstream projects
- Track performance and completion of key technical goals during project development
- Support quality assurance reviews for compliance with codes, standards, agreements, permitting requirements, and company practices
- Manage engineering documentation using SharePoint and Procore
- Create design review presentations and present project technical attributes and risks to peers and leadership
- Report to the Vice President of Engineering
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2 years’ experience in power delivery, substation, renewable energy or energy storage required
- ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field required
- EIT Certification preferred
- Familiarity with IEEE, NFPA, CEC, NEMA, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and UL preferred
- Familiarity with battery energy storage design and technical standards preferred
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
- Proficiency with AutoCAD preferred
- Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and executive-level reporting ability
- Willingness to be remotely based and ability to travel to project sites
- International work is prohibited
- Willingness to travel to sites within the continental US up to 20%
- Willingness to attend multi-day in-person all-hands meetings up to three times per year
- Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, organizational and leadership skills
- Strong time management and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Harvey with sound judgment and appropriate oversight
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Visa sponsorship or transfer may be relevant to eligibility
