About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Directly manage 1–2 staff members and run the day-to-day operations of the Healing to Advocacy Program
- Create logistics plans and solve complex logistical problems to reduce barriers to member participation
- Manage and co-design the EssieKids! childcare program
- Manage contractors, childcare providers, guest trainers, specialists, and other external relationships
- Coordinate and oversee member recruitment, nomination calls, and statewide cohort filling
- Identify, onboard, train, and support member facilitators
- Launch cohorts in 15–20 locations across California
- Coordinate 2–4 annual Healing to Advocacy graduation events
- Manage program data, administration, evaluation, retention, recruitment, and data-management systems
- Coordinate agendas and facilitate Essie Facilitator Training Retreats
- Respond to needs, concerns, and recommendations from facilitators and participants
- Track and share leadership-development outcomes with the Directors’ Team
- Ensure the program meets goals in the collaboratively created Operational Plan
- Recommend and implement programmatic improvements
- Manage and train staff and contractors carrying out core program functions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3–5 years of experience in complex program implementation, preferably in community organizing or direct services contexts
- Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of best practices in recruitment, retention, and Black feminist culture-setting
- Excellent prioritization skills
- Advanced experience facilitating retreats, workshops, and/or political education trainings
- Experience supervising people while acknowledging privilege and power, supporting growth, and maintaining accountability
- Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Track record as a collaborative leader
- Strong project planning, risk mitigation, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to analyze root causes and develop system-based solutions
- Commitment to studying and evolving understanding of systems of oppression
- Ability to recognize and examine one’s relationship to privilege and power
- Positive, adaptable, trustworthy, kind, and growth-oriented approach
- Ability to work as a calm, authentic leader in challenging or uncertain situations
