About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle liability and property claims within designated authority under close supervision
  • Resolve coverage and liability issues in accordance with applicable state insurance laws, regulations, and procedures
  • Investigate and adjudicate claims while ensuring statutory compliance
  • Verify coverage, establish and maintain reserves, secure recorded statements, and draft/process correspondence, reports, and records
  • Obtain additional information to determine liability
  • Document claim files and facilitate claim processing with other departments
  • Assign outside experts when necessary to support investigations and potential recovery
  • Establish contact with all parties involved in claims
  • Evaluate and negotiate claims, identify subrogation opportunities, and initiate action
  • Set up and issue settlement payments using approved methods, or decline payment within designated authority
  • Respond to inquiries from policyholders, agents, insurance carriers, claimants, assigned experts, and others
  • Respond to intercompany arbitration applications with supervisor guidance and file contentions and supporting documents
  • Conduct research and attend industry-related and other training programs to stay current on policy changes, interpretations, and legislation
  • Provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED and two years of related claims handling or customer service experience, or equivalent educational experience required
  • Appropriate licensing required by state within 45 days of employment for external applicants and 90 days for internal applicants
  • Candidates in proximity to Raleigh Branch office are preferred and will work from home
  • Weekday evening shifts and/or Saturday shifts required based on business and service level needs
  • Access to internet service bandwidth of at least 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload for remote work
  • Knowledge of liability laws for each state
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle codes
  • Knowledge of no fault/medical management/FPB laws for each state, including recognition of bodily injury claims
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred
  • Successful completion of Introduction to Insurance (INTRO) and Introduction to Claims (AIC 30) preferred
  • Manual keying/data entry/computer use
  • Must be able to perform occasional lifting/moving of 0–20 lbs, 20–50 lbs, and over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment
  • Rare climbing/accessing heights
  • Driving is never required
