About the role

  • Represents ERIE and its insureds in civil litigation from inception through trial and appeal.
  • Assesses liability arguments and damages presented and offers timely insights and recommendations to support effective claims resolution.
  • Collaborates with claims professionals, experts, and other stakeholders to ensure effective case management and consistent legal strategy.
  • Conducts discovery; takes depositions; prepares witnesses for testimony; drafts and argues motions, pleadings, and other court filings; and attends court hearings, pretrial conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials.
  • Mentors junior attorneys and contributes to team development through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Participates in training and development programs to enhance litigation and trial advocacy skills.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Ten years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, required.
  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in Pennsylvania, required.
  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in the Federal Courts in Pennsylvania, preferred.
  • Some periodic or overnight travel required.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
