About the role
- Remote, work from home role for Northern VA (Fairfax, Prince William, Stafford, Fauquier, Loudoun, Warren, Chester VA and DC Area); company car and gas card provided.
- Supports underwriting by providing overall opinion of risk; performs risk control surveys of property and casualty exposures.
- Performs accident investigations and consultative services; evaluates risk management programs and safety procedures.
- Prepares risk evaluation reports and develops/implements risk management service plans and recommendations.
- Makes acceptability decisions within defined binding authority and refers risks beyond authority to underwriter or supervisor.
- Visits agents to discuss risk management; participates in agency development activities.
- Integrates loss control activities with claims and underwriting; assists branch claims as requested.
- Presents risk control training sessions to internal and external customers.
- Travel required; incumbent must live in assigned territory; essential functions include performing risk assessment surveys and consultative visits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Risk Management and Insurance, Business Management, or related field and two years of professional experience in safety or property/casualty insurance; OR
- Associate's degree in risk management, business or related field and four years professional experience in safety or property/casualty insurance; OR
- High School diploma or GED and six years professional experience in safety or property/casualty insurance.
- Professional Risk Management designation preferred (ARM, CRM, CIC, CPCU, ALCM, ASP or CSP).
- Working knowledge of risk control practices preferred.
- Ability to travel; some overnight trips required.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required; ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment.
- Willingness to learn regulatory standards including FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and NFPA.
- Self-motivated with strong relationship building skills.
- Incumbent must live in territory assigned unless change is approved by the company.
