About the role

  • Contribute a design lens to problem framing, using empathy mapping and design thinking to understand user challenges, with guidance from senior designers and PMs on scoping and direction.
  • Stay close to customer feedback and usage patterns, combining qualitative research and data to identify experience improvements, developing the judgment to know when you have enough signal to act.
  • Own well-defined design challenges end-to-end, from concept through to shipped solutions.
  • Navigate moderate ambiguity with support, balancing user needs against technical and commercial constraints.
  • Design for both sides of EQL's platform. You're comfortable designing for complexity, whether that's a merchant workflow or a fan-facing moment.
  • Demonstrate strong craft in visual and interaction design, producing high-quality work and developing the ability to articulate and defend your design decisions clearly.
  • Use AI design and prototyping tools as part of your workflow to accelerate exploration, applying craft judgment to evaluate output quality.
  • Contribute to EQL's design culture and collaborate cross-functionally - participating actively in design reviews, sharing perspectives, and building alignment with engineering and product partners.
  • Form opinions grounded in evidence and craft intuition, and stay genuinely open to feedback, iteration, and learning - actively seeking critique as a growth mechanism.
  • Think in systems and work within EQL's design system, contributing to its evolution while ensuring consistency and scalability across everything you produce.
  • Support a collaborative team environment - giving and receiving constructive critique, sharing knowledge, and learning from more senior designers around you.

Requirements

  • Solid experience in product design within a startup or fast-paced software product environment, with a portfolio that shows shipped work - not just concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to design for complexity - multi-state workflows, information-dense UIs, task-oriented experiences.
  • B2B background is desirable but not required; what matters is evidence of this capability in your background.
  • Strong visual design skills with a developing understanding of typography, layout, colour, and interaction - and the ability to talk through the principles behind your decisions.
  • Ability to take a well-scoped problem from brief to shipped solution with growing independence, showing good judgment about trade-offs along the way.
  • Familiarity with AI-augmented design tools and willingness to integrate them into your workflow - with the craft judgment to evaluate output quality.
  • Comfort working within and contributing to a design system, with an eye for consistency and scalability.
  • Experience working closely with engineers and product managers, with an understanding of how technical and business constraints shape design decisions.
  • A curious, research-informed approach - you use feedback, data, and observation to sharpen your work, not just validate it.
  • Collaborative and coachable - you give and receive critique well, and you actively seek feedback as a tool for growth.
Benefits
  • We provide equity in EQL - we want our team to have skin in the game and to be as invested as we are in EQL’s success.
  • We provide competitive compensation and evaluate the market to ensure that remains true.
  • We provide a flexible work environment because we understand that everyone works differently and want to support our team to be their best.
  • We provide generous time off above and beyond what we are required to because we know that well-rested people make better decisions and are more engaged - when you thrive we thrive.
  • When you want to collaborate in person with other humans, we have a workplace that welcomes the whole team including their furry friends.
  • EQL is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital or caregiving status, pregnancy, religion, political beliefs, or national origin.
