About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work as the second in-house engineer alongside the Lead Software Engineer and an external technical consultant
- Write code from day one against defined feature work
- Contribute to the progressive replacement of a legacy monolith with a modern Next.js and .NET stack on Azure
- Develop features for the platform's V2 architecture
- Take ownership of larger features end to end as V2 matures
- Help shape the engineering practice in a young team
- Build software serving millions of learners across education, health, and climate initiatives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Around 3–5 years' professional software engineering experience
- Strong mission-driven orientation and motivation to make an impact
- Strong production React
- Comfortable across the stack, roughly 80% frontend and 20% backend
- Willingness to perform backend work
- Self-starter able to cut through ambiguity in a small team
- Next.js (helpful, not required)
- Azure (helpful, not required)
- C# or .NET (helpful, not required)
- Education, international development, or building for low-connectivity environments (helpful, not required)
- Comfortable being the second engineer in-house, working alongside a Lead Software Engineer and an external technical consultant (helpful, not required)
