About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • On a daily basis, the incumbent must quickly review incoming applications, verify the accuracy and validity of the documents provided, then make a decision (approve, decline, or refer for approval).
  • They must also ensure that approved files close within the expected timelines by performing necessary follow-ups to obtain missing documents and conditions while adhering to established guidelines.
  • Daily follow-up is conducted with brokers regarding issued loan commitments to maximize the number of funded files.
  • The incumbent analyzes documentation rigorously, placing particular emphasis on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter financing of terrorism (CFT) requirements, including validation of income and source of funds/down payment.
  • They ensure that all files comply with the organization’s credit policies and procedures.
  • They are responsible for the effective management of their file portfolio to meet deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs), using reports to track funding progress.
  • The role requires excellent customer service skills with both internal partners and mortgage brokers, as well as the development of strong relationships with brokers.
  • On a daily basis, they act as the primary point of contact for brokers, internal teams and direct client representatives, providing underwriting and funding expertise and supporting colleagues as needed.
  • They must keep their knowledge up to date regarding products, policies and procedures.
  • They contribute to building strong business relationships with brokers, including in-person meetings, to maximize satisfaction (NPS) while maintaining credit quality.
  • They assess file eligibility according to EQB’s reverse mortgage lending criteria, including borrowers’ solvency and legal capacity to enter into a loan. This includes, among other things, title analysis, assessment of the borrower’s financial capacity to maintain the property, review of appraisal reports and client documents in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • They work closely with Credit, Operations and Sales teams to evolve EQB’s reverse mortgage product, collaborating with various internal stakeholders to promote understanding of the product and its specific features.
  • Finally, they demonstrate initiative and a strong sense of urgency to ensure timely funding of files.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Postsecondary education in business administration, finance or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of mortgage experience; reverse mortgage experience an asset
  • Bilingual French/English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, concisely and professionally
  • Strong prioritization, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail combined with excellent organizational skills and rigor
  • Good knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML), counter financing of terrorism (CFT) and fraud risk practices in the mortgage sector, with the ability to handle misrepresentation situations
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage financing, quality assurance (QA) processes and underwriting guidelines (asset)
  • Experience underwriting mortgages for properties located in multiple provinces (asset)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word and Excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a constantly changing environment with high volume and fast pace
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with brokers
  • Willingness to continually develop and stay current with industry trends and changes
  • Critical thinker with the ability to manage complex files requiring an innovative approach
