About the role
- Assessment of existing structural components of a building, including concrete, steel, wood and masonry elements. Preparation of reporting based on observations, investigation key findings, and prepare recommendations remediation.
- Communicate directly with the client to ensure their understanding of our findings and recommendations and assist with prioritization of recommended work. Ensure client’s expectations are understood.
- Preparation of remedial packages to be solicited for pricing from qualified contractors in the industry. Includes the solution design development, detail sketching and working with BIM staff, generation of technical specifications and tender documentation.
- Oversee tender process, including sourcing contractors to price on the project, chairing pre-tender meetings, and development of addenda to support the tender process.
- Provide contract administration during the project construction schedule, including field review, submittal and shop drawing reviews, preparation of site instructions, and project schedule and project change management (change orders, invoicing review, etc.).
- Act as the liaison between the client and the contractor throughout the project. Assist with conflict resolution should it occur.
- Act as a resource for junior staff and provide mentorship from both a technical and operational standpoint.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5-7 years of Engineering/Structural Restoration project experience for existing structures. Experience dealing with concrete, steel, masonry, and/or wood structures would be required.
- Experience in the field of structural restoration of bridges and other transportation structures is considered an asset.
- Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Alberta would be required.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) contract documents would be considered an asset.
- Ability to lead small to medium sized structural/building restoration projects from investigation, through design and contract administration with limited guidance and supervision.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Must have excellent verbal communication skills with good to excellent written communication and computer skills.
- A strong working knowledge of construction materials and products used in building construction, with a focus on concrete repair and restoration, corrosion protection, traffic toppings, expansion joints and waterproofing systems.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset but not required.
