About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support a portfolio of projects within the Incubation & Trends practice area focused on land use and zoning reform and affordable housing supply
- Develop and apply parcel prioritization methodologies to identify sites for affordable housing development
- Use data and mapping software outputs to demonstrate impacts of zoning actions, needs, and opportunities
- Create market studies using Census, PUMS, CoStar, and other data sources
- Collaborate with spatial analysts by sharing databases and utilizing ArcGIS Online and other processes
- Produce publication-quality maps and graphics
- Develop map layouts for reports, presentations, and print productions according to Enterprise graphic standards
- Provide technical support to project teams delivering advisory services on land use and zoning reform issues
- Serve as a team member on technical assistance assignments and other projects
- Support clients, funders, subcontractors, partner organizations, and other Advisors teams
- Review and provide feedback on work products and approaches by staff and subcontractors for quality control and staff development
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Travel to out-of-town work assignments and team meetings as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- A Bachelor’s degree and two years related experience is required; an advanced degree may be substituted for experience
- Degree programs in City and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, and Economics are encouraged
- Graduate degree in a related field is preferred
- Experience working with, for or delivering advisory services to local governments is preferred
- Direct tangible experience working with local governments and/or community partners on land use and zoning is preferred
- Proficiency with ArcGIS or equivalent software is required
- ArcGIS users should be familiar with the spatial analyst toolbox, spatial statistic methods, and feature class manipulation
- Proficiency with data analysis software such as R or Python is required
- Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses
- Proficiency with the Adobe Suite is preferred
- Strong grammar, editing, and proofreading skills
- Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex activities while meeting deadlines
- Ability to proactively identify needs and solve problems
- Experience developing and/or implementing strategies focused on equity, resilience and mobility
- Passion for finding new solutions to the affordable housing crisis
- Understanding of challenges and opportunities facing local governments on housing supply, land use and zoning, technology and other market trends
- Experience working with or for local governments in a planning capacity
- Demonstrated experience working with partners in a planning capacity and on housing and community development efforts
- Familiarity with how land use and zoning has contributed to displacement and other inequitable practices
- Ability to travel to out-of-town work assignments and team meetings as required
