About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted for hospital services
- Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs)
- Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
- Provide patient instructions and collect insurance information
- Receive and process physician orders
- Operate the telephone switchboard and relay calls
- Meet assigned point-of-service collection goals
- Use quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts
- Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
- Pre-register patient accounts before visits
- Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial liability information through inbound and outbound calls
- Collect point-of-service payments and past-due balances, including payment plan options
- Explain consent forms, obtain required signatures, and witness signatures
- Distribute patient education documents and designated forms
- Review insurance eligibility responses and select applicable insurance plan codes
- Enter benefit data to support point-of-service collections and billing processes
- Screen Medicare medical necessity using ABN software and distribute ABNs when appropriate
- Document distribution of forms and pamphlets
- Deliver excellent customer service while meeting organizational policies, mission, goals, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1+ years of customer service experience
- High School Diploma/GED required
- CRCR required within 9 months of hire; company paid
- Must be able to work onsite at HSHS - St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL
- Openness to innovation, including AI
- Ability to work assigned full-time shifts and rotating weekends
- Customer service and compassion in patient interactions
- Ability to perform accurate data entry, insurance verification, medical necessity screening, auditing, and compliance checks
