About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted for hospital services
  • Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs)
  • Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
  • Provide patient instructions and collect insurance information
  • Receive and process physician orders
  • Use an overlay tool while providing customer service measured by Press Ganey
  • Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls
  • Meet assigned point-of-service goals
  • Use quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts
  • Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
  • Pre-register patient accounts before visits
  • Make inbound and outbound calls to obtain demographic, insurance, and patient information
  • Collect point-of-service and past-due balances and explain payment plan options
  • Explain consent forms, obtain required signatures, and witness signatures
  • Explain and distribute patient education and required regulatory forms
  • Review insurance eligibility responses, select insurance plan codes, and enter benefit data to support collections and billing
  • Screen Medicare medical necessity using ABN software and distribute ABNs as appropriate
  • Distribute and document designated forms and pamphlets

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1+ years of customer service experience
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • CRCR required within 9 months of hire; company paid
  • Must be able to work on-site at HSHS - St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL
  • Must demonstrate inquisitiveness and openness to innovation, including AI
  • Ability to assign accurate MRNs and complete medical necessity/compliance checks
  • Ability to collect and process demographic, insurance, physician order, and patient financial liability information
  • Ability to operate a telephone switchboard
  • Ability to use insurance verification systems and ABN software
  • Ability to explain consent and patient education forms and obtain signatures
  • Must meet regulatory compliance, audit, and point-of-service collection requirements
