About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Educate patients about and validate inpatient benefits
  • Review inpatient benefits face to face, obtain authorizations, and collect inpatient, observation, and outpatient-in-a-bed liabilities
  • Verify and calculate patient liabilities, including previous balances
  • Collect copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and balances after financial assistance
  • Assess insurance and financial information to determine patient liability
  • Communicate face to face with patients during their stay to collect estimated liabilities
  • Work assigned patient access, insurance eligibility, and follow-up reports
  • Facilitate daily in-house call reviews to validate payor sources and authorizations
  • Complete pre-registration and registration tasks and attempt to collect financial liabilities
  • Monitor missed collection opportunities and identify process improvements
  • Make at least three daily attempts to visit a patient's room when prior attempts are unsuccessful
  • Note all accounts with patient liability daily
  • Make follow-up calls to patients unable to pay while in-house
  • Send post-discharge letters detailing estimated liabilities and payment options
  • Obtain consent-to-treat, observation, Important Message from Medicare, and other registration-related forms
  • Assist with insurance verification, Medicaid and charity processing, and eligibility tasks
  • Run a daily census to identify patients with potential eligibility
  • Organize outpatient orders for current and future service dates using Revenue Cycle system queues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1+ years of customer service experience
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) required within 6 months of hire; company paid
  • Must be able to work onsite at Ballad - Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA
  • Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must meet regulatory compliance requirements
