About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review benefits and estimate out-of-pocket costs
- Facilitate payment arrangements and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
- Screen patients for Medicaid and/or financial assistance eligibility
- Calculate patient liability estimates and collect point-of-service payments
- Address billing and coverage inquiries and maintain accurate account documentation
- Provide education and problem resolution to improve patient experience and financial performance
- Monitor trends, prepare operational reports, and support process improvement initiatives
- Reduce financial barriers and improve patient satisfaction
- Meet productivity and department KPIs
- Maintain knowledge of client-specific payment models
- Triage patient financial questions and ensure resolution while patients are in-house
- Connect face-to-face with patients throughout their care journey
- Escalate identified financial process gaps
- Communicate and collaborate with case management, social workers, physician liaisons, and other personnel
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3 to 5 years of job experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience in multiple areas of the revenue cycle preferred, including financial counseling, customer service, public benefits/Medicaid advocacy or eligibility, state case/eligibility specialist, or applicable roles
- Prior Patient Access or physician-based experience is a plus
- Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
- Knowledge of all revenue cycle areas and processes
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to work on-site at Ballad - Norton Community Hospital, Norton, VA
