About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Review benefits and estimate out-of-pocket costs
Facilitate payment arrangements and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
Screen patients for Medicaid and/or financial assistance eligibility
Calculate patient liability estimates and collect point-of-service payments
Address billing and coverage inquiries and maintain accurate account documentation
Provide education and problem resolution to improve patient experience and financial performance
Monitor trends, prepare operational reports, and support process improvement initiatives
Reduce financial barriers and improve patient satisfaction
Meet productivity and department KPIs
Maintain knowledge of client-specific payment models
Triage patient financial questions and ensure resolution while patients are in-house
Connect face-to-face with patients throughout their care journey
Escalate identified financial process gaps
Communicate and collaborate with case management, social workers, physician liaisons, and other personnel
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

3 to 5 years of job experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience in multiple areas of the revenue cycle preferred, including financial counseling, customer service, public benefits/Medicaid advocacy or eligibility, state case/eligibility specialist, or applicable roles
Prior Patient Access or physician-based experience is a plus
Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
Knowledge of all revenue cycle areas and processes
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Must be able to work on-site at Ballad - Norton Community Hospital, Norton, VA
