About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform admitting duties for patients admitted for hospital services
- Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs)
- Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
- Provide patient instructions and collect insurance information
- Receive and process physician orders
- Use an overlay tool while providing customer service
- Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls
- Meet assigned point-of-service goals
- Use quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected
- Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
- Pre-register patient accounts before visits, including inbound and outbound calls
- Obtain demographic, insurance, and other patient information, including financial liabilities
- Collect point-of-service collections and past-due balances, including payment-plan options
- Explain consent and patient education forms, obtain signatures, and document witnesses
- Review insurance eligibility responses and select applicable insurance plan codes
- Enter benefit data to support point-of-service collections and billing processes
- Screen Medicare medical necessity using ABN software and distribute ABNs as appropriate
- Distribute and document designated forms and pamphlets
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1+ years of customer service experience
- Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
- High School Diploma/GED required
- CRCR required within 9 months of hire; company paid
- Ability to work onsite at RSFH - Mt. Pleasant Hospital
- Ability to perform accurate medical necessity, insurance, registration, and compliance processes
- Ability to use insurance verification, ABN, auditing, and reporting systems
- Ability to provide compassionate customer service and meet point-of-service goals
