About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted for hospital services
- Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs)
- Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
- Provide patient instructions and collect insurance information
- Receive and process physician orders
- Utilize an overlay tool and provide customer service
- Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls
- Meet assigned point-of-service goals
- Use quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure account corrections
- Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
- Pre-register patient accounts before visits
- Make inbound and outbound calls to obtain demographic, insurance, and patient financial information
- Collect point-of-service collections and past-due balances, including explaining payment plan options
- Explain consent forms, obtain required signatures, and document witnesses
- Distribute and explain patient education and regulatory forms
- Review insurance eligibility responses and enter benefit data to support collections and billing
- Screen Medicare medical necessity using ABN software and distribute ABNs as appropriate
- Distribute and document designated forms and pamphlets
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1+ years of customer service experience
- Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
- High School Diploma/GED required
- CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire (company paid)
- Ability to work onsite at Bon Secours - Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA
- Ability to meet regulatory compliance, patient access, insurance verification, and point-of-service collection requirements
