About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist with overall supervision and administration of safety for Business Unit projects
  • Oversee project safety efforts to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Communicate safety conditions to the HSE Manager and Business Unit supervision
  • Develop and conduct field safety orientation training
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, working conditions, fire-prevention equipment, first-aid supplies, and safety devices
  • Observe workers’ use of prescribed safety equipment
  • Test work areas for hazard exposures such as noise and toxic substances
  • Prepare findings reports with corrective-action recommendations
  • Investigate accidents and establish root causes
  • Document accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behavior
  • Assist with job safety analyses, safety and health management programs, and project-specific safety plans
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and demonstrate equipment use
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment on significant safety matters
  • Interact regularly with operational counterparts regarding trends and work activity

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Recognized Safety Certification
  • 5 years of previous construction experience
  • 1 year of previous experience as an on-site safety person
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Trainer
  • Specific mobile equipment trainer
  • Working knowledge of government regulations, hazard control methods, and industrial hygiene
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct training and influence organizational behavior
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary
  • Preferred: BCSP certification(s): CSP, ASP, GSP, OHST, CHST
  • 50–75% of time spent traveling to job sites/office locations
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to remain stationary, often kneeling, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to adjust and/or move objects up to 20 pounds
