About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support Multi-Peril Crop Insurance, Private Products, and Named Peril claims operations
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with the Area Claim Supervisor, policyholders, agents, and other adjusters
  • Record and transmit loss information to determine potential damages according to FCIC, NCIS, and company procedures
  • Complete field inspections
  • Read maps and aerial imagery
  • Measure fields and storage bins
  • Use company software and monitor company communications daily
  • Follow FCIS, state, and company rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Complete initial and ongoing training and certifications required by FCIC and state regulations
  • Explain adjusting procedures and findings to policyholders and agents
  • Conduct fact-finding and investigate crop damage
  • Record and transmit information to determine potential indemnities
  • Learn new crops as needed
  • Work indoors and outdoors in agricultural environments
  • Travel up to 50%, primarily within two hours of the assigned home office, with occasional out-of-town travel for training and meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Preferred 2 years’ experience handling crop insurance claims
  • Required CAPP certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Applicable State license
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to complete documentation requirements
  • Analytical thinking, fact-finding, and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to remain self-motivated and efficient
  • Ability to work in an office setting and outdoors in a farm environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Customer service focus
  • Working knowledge of crop insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to walk in agricultural fields up to 3 miles
  • Ability to climb agricultural storage bins up to 75 feet and ladders
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at significant heights, and in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to work in high-dust environments
  • Ability to use applicable personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and as needed
  • Up to 50% travel, primarily within a two-hour driving distance from the assigned home office
