About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with Senior BoP Power Engineers, Plant Managers, Turbine Vendors, and Consultants to perform arc-flash assessments for wind and solar facilities in North America
- The successful candidate must also be able to conduct in-house arc-flash assessments using tools such as EasyPower
- Compile operational data and performance reports, including equipment status, maintenance logs, and compliance supporting data, while supporting Senior BoP Power Engineers and the reliability compliance team
- Monitor and manage the reliability of BoP systems, including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and power cables, ensuring the safe and continuous operation of renewable energy facilities
- Leverage predictive maintenance techniques (e.g., thermal imaging, condition monitoring) to anticipate potential failures and plan proactive maintenance to prevent issues before they arise
- Enhance expertise in power system protection by performing in-house BoP protection system operation assessments and issuing formal reports
- Work with equipment vendors and external collaborators to lead in-depth root cause analyses of ongoing electrical issues with turbine components and high/medium-voltage (HV/MV) equipment
- Develop your expertise by providing engineering support to assets installed across various jurisdictions, including WECC, SERC, TRE, NPCC, IESO, and AESO
- Develop, prepare, and present status reports and key performance indicators to effectively communicate the progress and state of maintenance activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer or Specialist supporting BoP activities with exposure to renewables along with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and a P.Eng designation
- Read and manage electrical drawings and have experience in reviewing and analyzing protection system design, including its operation and coordination activities
- Familiar with applying CSA/IEEE/ANSI standards for medium and high voltage equipment, as well as NETA standards for testing activities while also having experience with electrical components, such as switchgear and transformers
