About the role
- Serve as the subject‑matter expert for the Gastonia billing team’s most complex billing activities, driving accurate execution, advanced reporting, and resolution of high‑impact billing issues across large‑volume and residential accounts.
- Partner closely with Operations, Contact Center, Credit and leadership to ensure billing accuracy, compliance, and transparency for both high‑volume and residential customer segments.
- Through detailed analysis, root‑cause investigation, and process optimization, this position plays a critical role in mitigating billing risk, supporting decision‑making and enhancing the overall customer experience.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to team members.
- Handle advanced billing issues as a subject matter expert.
- Analyze, audit, and review billing cycles to ensure accuracy.
- Investigate and manage complicated billing concerns, Prepare weekly and monthly reports for management.
- Monitor, maintain, verify, analyze, and reconcile billing and metering system reports.
- Enter appropriate adjustments into billing systems.
- Use extensive knowledge of rates to identify the most effective billing methods.
- Participate in testing and implementation of computerized billing systems.
- Interpret contracts and regulatory requirements for accurate billing.
- Monitor billing controls to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Offer billing technical support to business partners during emergency response.
- For large industrial/commercial and consolidated billing: Collaborate with business partners to address complex billing discrepancies.
- Provide technical expertise for specialized billing needs.
Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance.
- 6+ years related experience (e.g., customer service, credit, payments, accounting, finance).
- Proven skills in using customer billing systems.
- Excellent math and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently with accuracy and speed.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and train others.
