About the role

  • Reports to a principal investigator and oversees day-to-day operation of the research core.
  • Serves as a consultant providing technical expertise in research methodology, data collection, and analysis.
  • Plans and develops survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures; routinely develops research protocols and MOPs.
  • Conducts literature searches, summarizes findings, and coordinates research and intervention activities with the team.
  • Provides direction to consultants and team members; coordinates and conducts meetings and presentations.
  • Serves as Project Director for the Sleep Epidemiology Research Group (SERG), providing leadership and operational oversight across studies.
  • Manages grant support activities including collaborating on grant writing, identifying funding opportunities, and budget collaboration.
  • Coordinates sample logistics, inventory management, data collection/storage, and data pipeline oversight.
  • Supervises project coordinators, leads participant recruitment, and provides team training and support.
  • Leads the Actigraphy Core: request processing, budget estimates, staffing coordination, MOP development, staff training, quality assurance, data uploading, scoring pipeline management, and REDCap status reporting.
  • Assists with manuscript preparation, publication tracking, website maintenance, external communications, and community outreach/programming.
  • NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; remote work-from-home day options may be granted at department discretion.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology or related discipline and five or more years of research/professional experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Effective writing, analytic, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing and executing multiple projects and working with senior health policy makers and executives (preferred).
  • Experience conducting focus groups.
  • Experience developing research protocols, Manuals of Operation, and ensuring protocol compliance.
  • Experience with grant support, budget collaboration, and monitoring expenses.
  • Experience coordinating shipping/handling of biological samples and maintaining study inventories.
  • Supervisory experience managing project coordinators and training research staff.
  • Experience with actigraphy data collection, scoring pipelines, and REDCap status reporting.
  • Publication support and manuscript development experience.
