About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support development of requirements documents, specifications, and statements of work
  • Assist with design, prototyping, testing, and deployment of mechanical components within turnkey automated test and measurement solutions
  • Contribute to project plans, milestones, and design reviews under guidance from senior engineers or project leads
  • Design, model, and prototype mechanical system components
  • Travel as needed, possibly up to 25%, domestically and abroad, to support project objectives
  • Work on problems of moderate scope with guidance from senior engineers or project leads
  • Apply standard mechanical design practices and procedures
  • Identify issues, escalate risks with proposed options, and seek input from senior engineers when evaluating tradeoffs
  • Develop skills in requirements documentation, supplier interaction, and design reviews
  • Work in a group development environment while taking initiative and working independently
  • Learn applicable technology, systems, and products quickly
  • Interact with NI customers, NI Alliance Partners, NI Sales Teams, NI Engineering Teams, and project stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience in a Mechanical Design role
  • Working knowledge of fundamental mechanical design principles and processes
  • Experience with 2D and 3D design tools such as Creo or SolidWorks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Temporary visa holders listed in the posting, or candidates requiring current or future sponsorship, are not eligible for hire
  • Familiarity with fixture and tool design preferred
  • Familiarity with thermal analysis and stress analysis preferred
  • Familiarity with GD&T principles preferred
  • Knowledge of FMEA and RCCA methodologies preferred
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques, including machining, stamping, extrusion, casting, and sheet metal layout, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of electrical design principles, including grounding, shielding, cable design, and ESD principles, preferred
