About the role
- Define and execute hardware validation plans in accordance with best practice in test engineering and design of experiments.
- Ensure test coverage aligns with product risk, safety classification, and industrial use conditions.
- Identify validation gaps early and drive closure prior to certification or release.
- Perform in‑house pre‑compliance testing for emissions, immunity, ESD, EFT, and surge.
- Characterize failures, document root causes, and work with hardware and layout teams on corrective actions.
- Coordinate third‑party compliance testing and certification.
- Own or support environmental testing including shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, and related stresses.
- Ensure test conditions reflect real‑world installation and operating environments.
- Develop and enhance test automation to increase repeatability and reduce manual effort.
- Create automated test setups, scripts, and data‑capture methodologies where applicable.
- Standardize test procedures, fixtures, and report across programs.
- Act as an independent verifier to identify issues missed during feature‑focused development cycles.
- Reduce certification failures, late‑stage defects, and field escapes through disciplined testing.
- Mentor junior test engineers and technicians.
- Help establish best practices for validation methodology and documentation.
- Collaborate with external consultants for advanced EMC or atypical issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field.
- 4+ years in hardware validation, test engineering, or EMC‑focused test roles.
- Exposure to EMC testing and general hardware validation.
- Exposure to environmental testing (shock, vibration, temperature, humidity).
- Proficiency with common hardware troubleshooting equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, ESD equipment, or related EMC instrumentation.
- Familiarity with schematics, PCB layouts, and concepts of EMI/RFI for PCBs.
- Experience developing test plans, executing tests independently, and driving issues to resolution.
