About the role
- Acts as subject-matter expert on sectors under coverage, applying industry knowledge to analyze creditworthiness through a combination of qualitative and quantitative factors for current and prospective investments within assigned sectors.
- Utilizes Bloomberg and other third-party sources to maintain current views on industry- and company-specific trends, build and maintain financial models, and prepare research reports in a timely manner.
- Proactively communicates views, new developments, and recommendations to the investment team.
- Develops strong relationships with broker-dealers and banks in order to source investment opportunities and gain valuable insights into prevailing market conditions.
- Applies expertise to identify opportunities for improvement in research efficacy and efficiency.
- Serves as a resource and mentor to the analyst team to aid professional development and ensure consistent application of research processes across the group.
- Monitors and evaluates broader credit risk, market trends, and economic factors affecting fixed-income investments.
- Works closely with the investment team to apply knowledge in group discussions regarding the development and implementation of overall investment strategy.
- Provides insights on potential changes to portfolio characteristics like structure, duration, quality, sector allocation, and security type.
- Participates in reviews of third-party managers, quarterly report preparation, and creation of team presentations.
- Assists in the identification and selection of third-party managers within the Credit Portfolio.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Advanced degree in a related field preferred
- Five years of experience in investment analysis and/or portfolio management in the insurance industry
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred
- Excellent understanding of investment analysis, insurance investment issues, asset allocation performance measurement, cash management, corporate finance, and portfolio and financial theory
- Excellent knowledge of investment operations, trade settlement, insurance products, cash flow testing, and asset/liability matching
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently
- Proficiency with investment accounting software, Bloomberg, and worksheet and personal computer applications
- Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
