About the role
- Own the technical strategy and architecture of Embat’s Payments and Banking infrastructure, from design to production and long-term evolution.
- Build and scale globally distributed systems capable of handling millions of financial transactions with high reliability and correctness.
- Lead the development of new financial capabilities, including payments, banking integrations, ledgers, and core money movement services.
- Make and drive strategic technical decisions that shape the future of Embat’s financial platform.
- Act as a horizontal technical leader, driving alignment and best practices across multiple engineering teams.
- Mentor engineers at all levels through code reviews, design sessions, 1:1s, and hands-on collaboration.
- Champion engineering excellence by defining and evangelizing standards around quality, testing, security, and scalability.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Risk, and Operations to translate complex financial requirements into elegant technical solutions.
- Lead the resolution of the most complex technical challenges, setting a benchmark for engineering quality.
- Actively participate in technical interviews and hiring decisions, helping scale the team with top talent.
- Safeguard Embat’s culture, values, and engineering mindset as we grow.
Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Backend or Platform Engineer, with deep exposure to payments, banking, or financial services systems.
- Proven experience in at least one of the following: Building global payment infrastructure across local and SWIFT rails with high success rates.
- Designing and operating financial ledger systems processing millions of transactions.
- Developing complex financial products (payments, FX, lending, trading, or similar).
- Strong background in distributed systems, system design, and scalable architectures.
- High standards for correctness, security, observability, and operational excellence.
- Ability to influence without authority and drive alignment across teams.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A mentoring mindset: you enjoy helping others grow and raising the overall level of the team.
- Pragmatic but ambitious: you know when to aim for perfection and when “good enough” is the right trade-off.
- Team-first attitude: humility, collaboration, and ownership are non-negotiable.
- Background in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Languages: Working proficiency in English & fluent in Spanish.
