About the role

  • Provide guidance and leadership to newer colleagues on complex engineering assignments
  • Survey property, casualty and liability losses at residential and commercial buildings and loss scenes
  • Conduct investigations to determine the root cause of events and failures
  • Work closely with engineers and investigators to produce detailed reports and drawings outlining cause and origin of losses
  • Develop plans, reports and drawings to meet client needs and document failure analysis and causation
  • Provide expert testimony in court and/or depositions
  • Determine applicable engineering practices to fulfill scope, timelines, and cost estimates
  • Document and maintain billable hours and expenses for projects
  • Collaborate with sales and operations managers, architects, developers, insurance adjusters, claims managers and attorneys
  • Collaborate with EFIs national team of forensic experts to leverage experiences and assist on projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned and support the organizations quality programs

Requirements

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required (Florida)
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Eight (8) years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and education required
  • Minimum two (2) years engineering experience specifically in failure analysis and forensic engineering
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in insurance and/or risk management services industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
  • Analytical and interpretive skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
  • Ability to provide expert testimony in court and/or depositions
  • Physical ability to stand/walk long periods, kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, stoop, reach/overhead
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to drive up to 4 hours per day
  • Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
