About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Draft and negotiate engineering procurement and construction, balance of plant, early work, high-voltage, battery storage, equipment supply, service, maintenance, operations and maintenance, logistics, software, licensing, escrow, and other related agreements
- Lead negotiations, drafting, and critical review of Construction Agreements, Procurement Agreements, Service Agreements, Ancillary Agreements, and Framework Agreements
- Support internal clients with interpreting renewable-energy laws and incorporating compliance language into agreements
- Support internal risk review and approval processes
- Support due diligence for project debt financing, equity financing, purchase and sale, build-transfer, and design-build-and-sell transactions
- Advise construction and procurement teams during RFP and bidding processes, including preparing contract packages, reviewing bidder responses, and evaluating bids
- Create and update contract templates and form agreements
- Provide legal counsel and advice to internal clients and senior management
- Provide legal training to internal clients
- Manage outside legal counsel
- Recommend improvements to legal department processes to increase efficiency and mitigate legal risks
- Operate within the Legal Department’s budget
- Travel domestically and internationally as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Typically ten (10) years or more of law firm and/or in-house experience
- Current bar license from one or more U.S. or Canadian jurisdictions
- JD or LLB from an accredited law school in the U.S. or Canada
- Experience managing external counsel
- Excellent commercial drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage numerous challenging work assignments simultaneously under aggressive deadlines
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to advise internal clients and senior management on complex legal matters
- Excellent relationship-building skills
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and internal clients
- Superior decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated sound business judgment
- Ability to sit or stand at a computer for a reasonable length of time
- Ability to walk or stand regularly
- Domestic and international travel required
- Frequent use of Microsoft software and general office equipment
