Lead mechanical design from overall architecture through detailed drawings and documentation
Optimize existing products for improved quality, capacity, and cost efficiency
Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) throughout development: identify issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering) and external suppliers to ensure new products meet design, quality, and cost targets
Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure on-time, on-plan product launches
Research and evaluate materials, components, and emerging technologies for innovative solutions
Oversee prototype builds with suppliers and contract manufacturers, ensuring specifications, budget, and schedule are met
Administer PLM processes: release prototypes, author assembly/test procedures, and hand off to mass production
Source and qualify vendors, suppliers, and contractors; build strategic relationships for global component sourcing
Define, procure, and qualify test equipment for product validation and compliance
Hands-on integration of design and production; shepherd prototypes into high-volume manufacturing
Required hands-on presence in Toronto office 3–5 days per week
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
7+ years in manufacturing electromechanical products
Advanced CAD skills (SolidWorks and PDM preferred)
Strong leadership, mentorship, and project-management abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication with internal teams, suppliers, and customers worldwide
Proficiency in DFM/DFA, statistical tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning, and GD&T
Skilled in statistical analysis and data-driven decision making
Experience with manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal, stamping, MIM, CNC machining, soft goods) and process validation
Familiarity with reliability testing, cosmetic QA, and standard mechanical test methods
Track record in product validation (shock/drop, cycle, environmental testing)
Experience collaborating with Asian high-volume manufacturing facilities
Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple concurrent projects
Willingness to travel internationally ~4–5 weeks per year
Background check required
Preferred: experience in high-volume manufacturing; HVAC system knowledge; wireless antenna integration in enclosures (Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi); MID/LDS experience; audio subsystem design (microphones, speakers); optical or camera system design; thermal modeling and analysis
