About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide practice-based coaching for Head Start/Early Head Start teachers, Teacher Assistants, Home Based Visitors, and Family Child Care Providers
  • Conduct observations, model practices, provide feedback, analyze child outcomes data, and coach/mentor teaching staff
  • Provide initial and ongoing training and technical assistance to teaching staff and Center Directors
  • Assist with or develop procedures for instructional outcomes, curriculum implementation, child assessment, and cultural and linguistic responsiveness
  • Maintain reliability in the CLASS assessment tool and design classroom assessment plans
  • Analyze CLASS observation data and support staff professional development through evidence-based teaching practice trainings
  • Collaborate with the Manager, ECE and field staff to develop and evaluate Early Childhood Education and School Readiness goals
  • Monitor developmentally and linguistically appropriate approaches to child development and education
  • Monitor and document Early Childhood Education Outcomes and School Readiness progress
  • Design and implement staff trainings for continuous improvement in child readiness outcomes
  • Provide input and recommendations on staff performance for appraisal and corrective action
  • Facilitate and coordinate meetings and trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development and/or related field
  • Child Development Permit (Master Teacher or Higher), maintained with ongoing educational requirements
  • 3 to 6 units of an Infant/Toddler class from an accredited college with a “B” grade or better
  • Current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR first aid certificate
  • Current food handler’s certificate
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschool children
  • 3 years’ experience providing technical assistance, training, coaching, or consultation support
  • Experience with observation documentation/assessment, curriculum processes, developmentally appropriate practices, and quality early childhood learning environments
  • Knowledge of child development, research-based pedagogy, curriculum resources, classroom management, reflective practice coaching, HS/EHS performance standards, adult learning techniques, and developmental milestones
  • Completion of California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training before beginning work
  • Prior experience with developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood family services and diverse families with very young children
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, and Skype
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize workload, manage deadlines, and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Certification in all screenings and assessments used by the ESSC Education department within 18 months of hire, including ERS, CLASS, Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies, HOOVERS, HELP, Kindercharts, and DRDP
  • Competence in ECE instructional methodologies and experience in a multicultural setting
  • Ability to train and present to large and small groups
  • Ability to interpret and implement California Department of Education, Title 5, Title 22, Head Start Performance Standards, and Easterseals policies and procedures
  • Effective oral and written communication and ability to work cooperatively with varied individuals and groups
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 40 lbs. continuously
  • Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and TB test
  • Ability to provide required current immunizations under California requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Justice/FBI criminal record and fingerprint clearance
