Develop and prepare engineering designs, construction drawings, and supporting documentation for electric and gas distribution projects related to new business and franchise relocations
Review project scopes, site plans, utility maps, and customer requirements to determine design approach and material specifications
Coordinate with SDG&E engineering teams, construction crews, local municipalities, permitting agencies, and third-party stakeholders to facilitate project approvals and scheduling
Support estimating and material ordering activities by preparing bills of materials and cost estimates
Perform technical reviews to ensure designs comply with SDG&E standards, applicable codes, and safety requirements
Track project status and maintain accurate records in SDG&E’s work management systems
Address design revisions, field changes, and as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Participate in regular project meetings and provide updates on design progress, issues, and risk mitigation plans
Provide technical guidance and quality assurance for junior designers or drafters as needed
Requirements
Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Drafting/Design, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience supporting utility engineering and design projects (electric or gas distribution preferred)
Familiarity with SDG&E standards, General Orders (GO 95, GO 128), and CPUC regulations strongly desired
Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other design software
Understanding of permitting processes, right-of-way considerations, and municipal coordination
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with internal teams and external stakeholders
