About the role
- Responsible for the design of deliverables associated with substation design projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients
- Attend project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives
- Prepare engineering cost estimate and man-hour estimates and schedules
- Develop top level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages
- Provide guidance to junior engineers and/or designers in the development of detailed design documents
- Perform calculations for studies and reports including, but not limited to, grounding & lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies
- Prepare equipment specifications for procurement of major equipment
- Perform quality control reviews of design calculations, and drawings
- Provide short term field support during construction
- Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (Civil/structural, telecom, transmission, etc.)
- Serve as technical advisor for the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university
- 8+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required
- Experience leading a team of engineers and designers designing substation projects
- Experience with designing substations.
