About the role
- Oversees the day-to-day operations in support of all facets of the laboratory operation.
- Ensures effective operation and maintenance of all laboratory equipment, manages testing, develops and manages budgets, meets customer service levels, and regulatory requirements.
- Manages staff including scheduling, performance management, and fostering employee engagement.
- Monitors and oversees implementation of process improvements to meet or enhance quality and service targets.
- Takes accountability and resolves next level escalation on customer service issues.
- Assists in developing and implementing operations budget.
- Monitors financial, volume, and productivity data to meet targets.
- Implements cost reduction opportunities when identified.
- Develops and maintains laboratory policies and procedures.
- May have accountability for management of a non-laboratory department.
- Performance management of employees, including performance reviews.
- Hires and onboards new employees.
- Trains, orients, and maintains competencies for employees.
- Maintains scheduling, time off approval and timecard sign-off.
- Maintains optimal staffing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field or Health, Education, and Welfare(HEW) equivalency exam (pre 1988) with seven years of relevant experience
- 3+ years of Laboratory experience
- 4+ years of progressive management accountability
- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) certification by a recognized agency such as ASCP, AMT, or NCA in specialty area incumbent will be working in or related specialty certification such as Histotechnologist (HTL), or Cytotechnologist (CT) upon hire required
