About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage, inspect, and protect assigned portions of approximately 33,000 miles of purchased easement and fee-owned transmission corridors
- Ensure customers, contractors, and developers comply with Asset Protection guidelines and recorded property-rights documents
- Review and approve technical engineering drawings and site plans, including grading, utilities, and landscaping
- Evaluate grade changes, National Electrical Safety Code issues, OSHA minimum approach distances, and Duke Energy clearance standards
- Resolve existing encroachments and helicopter-reported encroachments through negotiation, documentation, court action, and testimony when necessary
- Collaborate with observers during helicopter flights
- Meet with developers, architects, engineers, executives, government leaders, lawyers, planning boards, and community stakeholders
- Prepare professional letters to property owners regarding plan-review findings
- Maintain detailed documentation of conversations, site visits, emails, evidence, and cases for management or legal review
- Participate in depositions, trials, and other legal actions involving unresolved encroachment issues
- Train, onboard, and mentor new employees
- Respond to customer and community concerns related to Asset Protection programs
- Identify and assign relationship-building opportunities with influential leaders
- Evaluate and attend relevant professional conferences and association events
- Work with DOT, Environmental, and other government agencies to ensure regulatory compliance and communicate vegetation-management plans
- Assist with escalated enterprise projects
- Monitor contract-resource performance for safety, standards adherence, productivity, and expectations
- Assist the Lead AP Program Manager during emergency storm operations
- Work with minimal supervision on complex issues and apply advanced problem-solving skills
- Integrate industry data knowledge into business practices and decision-making
- Manage regional expenditures, budgets, forecasts, and work adjustments
- Coordinate supporting evidence and legal documentation for Asset Protection actions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in communications, Forestry, Engineering, Real Estate, Business, or another related discipline
- Alternatively, high school diploma/GED and seven (7) years minimum related work experience for Asset Protection Program Manager
- Alternatively, high school diploma/GED and ten (10) years minimum related work experience for Sr. Asset Protection Program Manager
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Working knowledge of how Asset Protection affects electrical-system safety and reliability
- Project management work experience and/or PMI knowledge
- Familiarity with GIS databases, mapping, and geospatial systems
- Utility experience, from working knowledge to proficiency
- Organizational, planning, and time-management skills
- Effective verbal and written communication, customer-relations, and presentation skills
- Collaboration, teamwork, leadership, influencing, and motivation skills
- Negotiation and conflict-management skills
- Ability to deal with highly stressful situations
- Ability to collaborate with multiple organizational levels
