About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform single-phase and polyphase self-contained and transformer-rated metering work, including installation, maintenance, testing and special meter investigations
  • Troubleshoot, wire and verify complex transformer-rated metering installations, including Wholesale/Transmission deliveries and Plant metering
  • Perform Interchange Tie-Testing and witness testing with other electric utilities
  • Obtain data from metering equipment, such as load profile data
  • Perform metering material handling duties
  • Work outside in varying weather conditions and around energized electrical apparatus
  • Drive daily and occasionally stay overnight
  • Complete daily work via mobile laptops in trucks
  • Handle testing equipment and materials by squatting, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds
  • Work at construction sites, in congested areas and occasionally at elevated heights from ladders, platforms or buckets
  • Maintain frequent customer contact, including conflict resolution
  • Participate in scheduled call-outs, extended workdays and weekend work for projects or emergency restoration
  • Work with limited direct supervision while performance is monitored through remote technologies and audits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate or higher degree from an accredited tech school or college in electronics engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, computer engineering technology or communications technology, OR 3–5 years prior field work experience relevant to the job description or comparable work experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for customer and team interaction
  • Knowledge of basic electrical principles and demonstrated proficiency in basic math skills
  • Familiarity with basic computer operations and ability to run common application programs such as Microsoft Office Products
  • Ability to pass background screening to become NERC-CIP compliant
  • Prior experience with electrical schematics, electrical troubleshooting and installations
  • Familiarity with watt-hour metering and associated equipment, including installing, testing, troubleshooting and programming of meters
  • Knowledge of Interchange Tie-Testing, Wholesale/Transmission metering and Plant Metering
  • Knowledge of high-end metering installations including JemStar, ION, Q1000 and translate meters
  • Knowledge of electric distribution systems, including different service types and voltages
  • Knowledge and experience working with Mobile Work Management Systems (SS9) and Duke applications such as Maplink, CBIS and Powertrack
  • Prior experience with telecommunications devices, including wireless, cellular, RS 232/474 and Ethernet
  • Prior experience with communication protocols, including DNP and MODBUS
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and general troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of the service area within the reporting location
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
