About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the integration, coordination, and implementation of enterprise-wide business continuity and emergency management programs
- Partner with internal and external teams to establish strategies, goals, and performance expectations
- Implement business continuity or emergency management program processes, including training, plan development, and exercises
- Support building, training, and developing Incident Response Team response processes and capabilities
- Perform internal and external reporting
- Develop guidance and provide consultation on program management, metrics, continual improvement, and internal reporting
- Support department initiatives, including identifying and managing emerging business continuity/emergency management issues and deploying associated plans
- Assist with emergency response and mitigation actions during incidents that disrupt business operations
- Assess program performance, risks, and outcomes and translate them into insights for leadership
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and organizational preparedness efforts
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree and 1 year of related work experience for Business Continuity and Emergency Management Specialist
- Technical qualification and 2 years of related work experience may substitute for an Associate's degree and 1 year of experience
- Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related work experience for Senior Business Continuity and Emergency Management Specialist
- High School/GED and 6 years of related work experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience
- Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) within 1 year
- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) within 1 year
- Experience supporting enterprise or business-functional business continuity or emergency management programs
- Ability to assess performance, provide actionable recommendations, and support program development
- Experience leading teams for project management, initiatives, continuity of operations, and crisis management
- Proficiency in planning, data analysis, performance evaluation, and action planning
- Experience contributing to cross-functional initiatives and organizational preparedness efforts
- Must live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship
- Master's degree in Emergency Management preferred
- Proficiency in project management theories and principles
- Proficiency in planning, data analysis, evaluating alternatives, and preparing and presenting recommendations
- Associate Emergency Manager or ability to obtain within one year
- Certified Business Continuity Planner or ability to obtain within one year
- Very good written and oral communication skills
- Very good problem-solving and analysis skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Knowledge of electric or gas utility operations preferred
- Experience serving on business continuity or incident/emergency management teams
- Experience utilizing FEMA Incident Command System principles or training
- Knowledge of project management principles
- Knowledge of change management principles
