About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- developing and updating in-house transient analysis methodologies for the proposed power uprates and 24 month fuel cycle transitions at McGuire, Catawba and Harris Nuclear plants
- performing the UFSAR Chapter 15 accident analyses at the uprated power conditions
- ensuring each reload core design, uprated or non-uprated, is performed in accordance with NRC approved methods and meet all limits
- Perform and review UFSAR Chapter 15 non-LOCA transient analyses
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation
- Qualify and maintain computer codes used in calculating DNB limits or verifying other limits are met
- Participate in reload core design teams to ensure each reload is designed to meet all applicable safety limits and are performed in accordance with NRC approved in-house methodologies
- Collaborate/interface with Duke, industry, vendor, and regulatory personnel
- Participate in technical training activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- 4-6 years of engineering experience
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with core and thermal hydraulic codes such as RETRAN and VIPRE or their equivalents
- Experience with PWR transient analysis
- Experience with development and support of License Amendment Requests and 50.59 Evaluations
- Familiarity with the basic systems of a Westinghouse or B&W NSSS reactor
- Unix and/or Linux workstation experience
- Computer programming experience (FORTRAN/Python/VBA/etc.)
