About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • provide direct management and leadership to staff conducting FERC/NERC compliant transmission planning activities
  • coordinate with transmission operations, transmission planning, distribution, power generation, nuclear generation, resource planning, FERC Legal, State Regulatory, and peer Grid Strategy and Advancement business units
  • communicate to regulators, senior leadership and large stakeholder groups the technical aspects and cost impacts associated with transmission planning projects
  • coach, lead, develop and supervise employees engaged in the development of Transmission Planning work activities
  • provide communications, direction, and broad leadership to staff on changes to regulatory requirements
  • collaborate with peer planning managers and technical advisory leads across the Carolinas
  • develop a transmission plan and transmission planning capital budget for the assigned geography
  • ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • five (5) or more years related work experience
  • Experience pertinent to jurisdictional Transmission Planning
  • Generator Interconnection processes
  • associated FERC Orders and NERC Standard requirements
  • ability to analyze and interpret data
  • ability to resolve problems rapidly
  • ability to synthesize a variety of information from numerous sources
  • ability to collaborate with external organizations and across multiple internal departments
  • extensive transmission planning experience
  • knowledge of FERC Open Access Transmission Tariff requirements
  • experience in the utility industry
