Government and Community Relations Manager II

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Builds and maintains strong relationships with local government officials and key community stakeholders in Duke Energy’s service area in Pasco and Pinellas counties.
- Reads and understands local political dynamics and stakeholder ecosystems.
- Partners with nonprofits, trade associations, and community groups to enhance the company’s reputation and educate key community stakeholders on Duke Energy’s business initiatives.
- Responds to requests for assistance from local government officials and key community stakeholders related to Duke Energy’s business activities.
- Studies and evaluates proposed local ordinances and legislation to determine impact on the company’s business objectives.
- Develops and provides presentations to local governing bodies during public meetings and serves as primary company point of contact for local elected officials and city/county staff.
- Maintains intimate knowledge of local political dynamics in Pasco and Pinellas counties.
- Recognizes political sensitivities and provides input and guidance to Duke Energy business units.
- Navigates stakeholder ecosystems including business leaders, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, etc.
- Coordinates closely with Emergency Management officials in Pasco and Pinellas counties during natural disasters.
- Responds to requests for assistance from local officials and works with Duke Energy business units to identify pathways to resolution.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Communications, Business Administration or other related field
- Minimum seven (7) years of relevant work experience
- In lieu of required degree, High School/GED and minimum ten (10) years relevant work experience
- Prior public affairs and advocacy experience
- Intimate knowledge of local governments and political dynamics in Pasco and Pinellas counties
- Experience developing and implementing government relations and public affairs strategies
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Analytical/problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with minimal daily direction
- Extensive & thorough knowledge of electric distribution and transmission systems & grid operations
- 10-plus years’ experience with Duke Energy, or equivalent experience with lead responsibility for managing governmental and/or business and community relations
- Comprehensive financial and business acumen
- Political savvy and thorough understanding of local and state political processes
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and management skills, leadership skills, and facilitation skills.
