About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support Registered Nurses and/or Licensed Practical Nurses with delegated patient care
Provide basic care and comfort and assist with acutely ill patients
Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for procedures
Obtain, record, and report patient data and changes in condition
Provide feeding, bathing, hair care, dressing, ambulation, skin care, and bowel/bladder care
Reinforce patient teaching provided by nurses or providers
Assist with examinations, positioning, dressing changes, weighing, admissions, discharges, and transportation
Take and record vital signs, intake and output, blood glucose fingersticks, and other patient information
Collect, deliver, and conduct routine tests on specimens
Maintain infection control, sanitation, unit cleanliness, supplies, and equipment
Document patient care in the electronic health record
Participate in professional development and support other staff and learners
Respond appropriately during emergencies and perform related duties

Requirements

What you’ll need

Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation
No substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect, or misappropriation of property
BCLS certification must be maintained or completed by the end of new hire orientation
No previous work experience required; prior experience preferred
Working knowledge of routine and special patient treatments
Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, health and safety precautions, hospital layout, infection control, and safety procedures
Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the day
Ability to frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 35 pounds with assistance or appropriate lift equipment
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to document and communicate information using computer or paper tools
Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff
Working knowledge of non-professional bedside patient care
Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing may be required
