About the role

  • Direct the overall maintenance and engineering support for Duke Clinical or Medical Research facilities and systems
  • Establish and maintain a routine and preventive maintenance program for the outlying buildings and research facilities and supporting systems
  • Coordinate proactive planning for special maintenance, upgrade and renovation projects
  • Monitor the execution, completion and inspection of projects
  • Consult and collaborate with other departments, administration, contractor support, and vendors in determining building needs for both short- and long-term planning
  • Coordinate resolution for special maintenance and construction problems and assist user in determining priorities for changes as needed
  • Review plans, specifications and equipment
  • Inspect facilities and ensure compliance with JCAHO, NFPA, OSHA, AALAC and other state and federal codes and regulations
  • Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, discipline, firing, performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, training, and scheduling
  • Perform other duties incidental to the job as required

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a hospital/healthcare setting required
  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience required
  • CHFM is a plus
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Management or equivalent degree applicable to facility management
  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of related engineering and management experience in a large healthcare organization in facilities management
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills required
