About the role
- Obtain prior authorization/pre-certification for clinic and cath lab procedures as required by insurance carriers as needed according to PDC guidelines.
- Obtain insurance verification and inform patients of their financial liability.
- Arrange payment options for financially liable patients.
- Pre-register patients with accurate patient demographics and financial data as needed.
- Contact patients in advance if they do not have insurance listed and create estimates.
- Properly document all patient communication.
- Resolve insurance claim denials/rejections.
- Work monthly denial list to find any billing or denial issues.
- Calculate and collect payments appropriately for all patients.
- Resolve appropriate WQ and claim edits.
- Inform attending physician of patient financial hardship and keep the providers update regarding any peer to peer requests.
- Update billing system account notes and referrals to reflect the current insurance status of the patient.
- Reconcile necessary billing and work queue issues.
- Assist with department coverage as needed. It will include: referrals, recalls, order workqueues, no-show lists, in-basket messages, log into the cisco phone system and take calls to help the team, cover the front desk check-in and check-out.
- Gather necessary information and documentation to support proper handling of billing inquiries and complaints.
- Handle cash management and close out other employees cash on a daily basis.
Requirements
- Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally required through a high school education, with some postsecondary education preferred.
- Additional training or working knowledge of related business.
- Two years of experience working in a hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office or billing and collections.
- Associate's degree in a healthcare related field and one year of experience working with the public.
- Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with the public.
