About the role
- Reviews all new proposed processes, process equipment, proposed changes to processes or process equipment, and existing plant operations
- Provides technical expertise to all departments to help evaluate risks and cost-effectively resolve process safety (Property Protection) issues
- Verifies that Process Safety Information (PSI) is accessible, completed, and current
- Leads and participates in investigations of site process safety incidents
- Develops and produces process safety specifications for new equipment
- Writes Standard Operating Process Safety Procedures and trains operating personnel
- Prepares process safety documentation
- Investigate and implement continuous improvement processes
- Support Process Safety in the Americas region as a member of the Process Safety Network Tier 2 group
- Participation in or presentations at PMP phase transfer meetings
- Provide data for process safety key performance indices and propose improvement actions and recommendations accordingly.
Requirements
- BS Degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
- 3-5 years’ experience in process safety engineering
- Proven experience leading HAZOPs or similar hazard assessments
- Hands on experience with chemical and polymer processing/manufacturing equipment
- Ability to take responsibility for several projects at one time with an emphasis for quality and organization
- Deep understanding of how operations and engineering intersect with safety
- Good mechanical aptitude, ability and willingness to perform hands-on work
- Knowledge of production processes and specific requirements
- Detailed knowledge of relevant Manufacturing Excellence work processes
- Detailed knowledge of applicable SHE & Manufacturing requirements
- Solid understanding of codes and regulations related to chemical manufacturing environments with skill in those areas related to process safety
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance for chemical manufacturing (e.g., EPA, OSHA, FDA, or equivalent).
