About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own Dream.Org’s institutional funding engine
- Manage a high volume of grant writing and funder outreach to maintain and grow foundation and corporate revenue
- Ensure grant reporting compliance and prevent missed reporting deadlines
- Own proposal strategy, funder stewardship, reporting compliance, and development operations independently
- Manage prospecting, internal planning, drafting, submission, and tracking for grants and reports
- Produce close-to-final drafts for grants, reports, and letters of intent across a portfolio of 75+ annual submissions
- Develop grant work plans and timelines; own the submissions calendar and Asana task boards
- Drive staff toward internal deadlines
- Interview program and organizing staff and translate outcomes into accurate, compelling proposals and reports
- Ensure program teams incorporate funder deliverables into plans and execute them
- Serve as first point of contact for foundation relationships and development lead on external funder calls
- Lead organizational relationship mapping and maintain research and outreach cadence for prospect development and stewardship
- Advise program teams on federal and state grant submissions
- Prepare senior leadership for cultivation and solicitation meetings
- Support the VP of Growth & Partnerships on five- to seven-figure institutional opportunities
- Partner on revenue planning, forecasting, performance tracking, and institutional funding KPIs
- Own Salesforce implementation and daily prospect and opportunity tracking
- Create pipeline and grant-revenue progress reports and maintain data integrity
- Advise the VP on department priorities, capacity, risk, donor concentration, pipeline gaps, and reporting exposure
- Supervise development staff and/or consultants as needs evolve, including hiring, training, workload, schedule, and deadline management
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 6 years of progressively responsible grant writing, grant management, and institutional or foundation relationship management experience at a nonprofit
- Full ownership of the grant submission cycle from prospecting through reporting
- Demonstrated relationships in the social justice philanthropy field
- Track record of securing at least six-figure grants from private and corporate foundations as the lead author or lead strategist
- Experience contributing to revenue planning, forecasting, or KPI tracking with senior leadership
- Experience developing and reviewing proposal and grant budgets with finance staff
- Exceptional narrative writing and meticulous editing skills
- Ability to convey the stakes and significance of legislative and organizing work
- Ability to report on multi-year campaigns with precision and candor
- Experience tracking prospect management using Salesforce or a comparable CRM
- Ability to own and maintain a CRM system
- Confidence making program pitches and direct funding asks
- Comfort playing varying roles on internal and external calls

- Candidates who advance must submit a writing sample and may complete a short writing exercise
- Funding experience in criminal justice or closely related reform areas preferred
- Experience with climate, workforce, or tech equity funders valued
- Lived experience or deep connection to impacted communities preferred
- Experience building or improving development operations infrastructure preferred
- Experience supervising staff or managing consultants/contract grant writers preferred
- Experience using Asana for project management preferred
- Ability to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the United States upon job offer
- Ability to travel up to 15% for funder meetings, philanthropic conferences, and periodic in-person team gatherings
