About the role

  • Lead the end-to-end vision and execution of art direction, ensuring that all visual content meets defined quality, performance and scheduling requirements.
  • Deliver the necessary artistic quality around a changing schedule, working with producers, designers and engineering to hit all sprints
  • Review and sign off on deliverables across all art disciplines (concept, environment, character, UI, VFX, animation), providing actionable feedback and guidance
  • Ensure the art direction is clearly documented through resources like the Art Bible and style guides, enabling consistent and repeatable execution
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, bring fresh ideas and techniques to elevate the visual identity.
  • Build and maintain the processes, workflows and pipelines that allow the art team to support regular content updates - bi-monthly, seasonal, new features, live events and ongoing enhancements
  • Work with production to forecast, estimate and plan art tasks across sprints and releases balancing creative goals with operational constraints
  • Identify and mitigate art-related risks to delivery, including resource bottlenecks, technical limitations or changing priorities
  • Take full accountability for the performance and wellbeing of the individual artists on your project and the overall successful cohesiveness of the team
  • Lead meetings, make key decisions and drive art direction at the highest level of the project and give creative direction
  • Support and guide leads, empowering them to manage their teams maintaining consistency and quality across the project
  • Manage/report issues of any art conflicts that would interfere with the visual goals, performance, or scheduling
  • Conduct regular 1 to 1s, manage performance and development plans. And mentor team members on both creative and production practices
  • As needed, build and maintain effective relationships and deliver art direction with outsourcing partners to scale art production for games and marketing without compromising standards
  • Review art candidates in all disciplines and conduct interviews
  • Own and constantly improve the candidate selection experience and process
  • Communicate and collaborate in a positive and supportive way across all disciplines in the project leadership team to achieve the best art direction for the project while minimising conflict and maximising resolution to complete the project.
  • Drive team wide communication around scheduling, dependencies and technical considerations
  • Contribute to the Double Eleven Way by working with our business operations teams to continually improve the way we make games and support our people
  • Own and oversee the technical and creative process across all art disciplines; from tools and workflows to getting assets in game, ensuring they all scale with the demands of a live service game
  • Partner with engineering teams to define requirements for new tools, optimisations, or pipeline improvements.
  • Ensure all art content is performant, game-ready and optimised for the target platforms and release cadence
  • Regular weekly insight reporting through our internal tools
  • Effectively communicate, present, and negotiate (verbal and written) at the highest level to key stakeholders around the production needs
  • Regularly present art direction and content plans to internal stakeholders and our partners, ensuring alignment with project goals
  • Support publishing team with art requirements for trailers, key art and other promotional materials, coordinating with production where necessary

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a Game Lead/Assistant/Art Director with multiple shipped titles displayed in a strong, relevant, digital portfolio
  • Able to deliver outstanding art direction to align with the set game design for the project
  • Working inline with all cross discipline leads and managers to deliver on set expectations
  • Able to create, manage and maintain the Art Bible and documentation for the art direction of the project
  • Able to lead and facilitate expanding core ideas, concepts and style guides around a designed gameplay ideas
  • Able to manage a full spectrum of Artists, across multiple experience levels
  • Understand technical creative processes of all art disciplines to help build out the art pipeline and tools required to set art direction of the game.
  • Able to imagine/create current game art styles that work within each game genre to be able to create the key art direction/technicalities for the designs of the projects
  • Will need to have a full technical graphical knowledge of current game engines to create graphics that suit the production and performance required for various outputs and quality
  • Experienced in coaching artists/teams on all areas of games art
  • Experience working in varied art styles and 3D software across all disciplines to have deep knowledge on all modern art process within games
  • Experience with popular game engines, preferably Unity / Unreal
  • Experience with shaders and real-time rendering pipelines to include PBR workflow experience (Substance Painter / Designer) Visual art skills, e.g. illustration, graphic design, VFX experience
  • Excellent observation and research skills
  • Experienced knowledge of the video game industry and awareness of the video game development processes
  • Excellent understanding of art fundamentals across all art disciplines
  • Experience working in an Agile workflow
  • Self starter, highly creative, and dependable with strong time management skills
  • Strong design and motion skills using After Effects to create exciting presentations to teams and clients
