About the role
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Manage routine sampling, monitoring, and analysis of air, water, and waste streams
- Track and report environmental performance metrics (e.g., emissions, effluent, waste generation)
- Prepare and submit required environmental reports and permits
- Maintain and update environmental management systems and documentation
- Investigate and respond to environmental incidents
- Review capital improvement projects for permit and regulatory impacts
- Conduct environmental training for employees and contractors
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to implement pollution prevention and waste minimization strategies
- Support energy and water conservation initiatives
- Review capital improvement projects for sustainability impacts
- Work with environmental personnel across the Domtar mill system
- Involvement in our local community through volunteer efforts
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in pulp and paper
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes
- Experience with environmental monitoring equipment and data analysis
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification (preferred)
- Experience with ISO 14001 or similar environmental management systems (preferred)
- Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies (preferred)
