About the role

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Manage routine sampling, monitoring, and analysis of air, water, and waste streams
  • Track and report environmental performance metrics (e.g., emissions, effluent, waste generation)
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports and permits
  • Maintain and update environmental management systems and documentation
  • Investigate and respond to environmental incidents
  • Review capital improvement projects for permit and regulatory impacts
  • Conduct environmental training for employees and contractors
  • Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to implement pollution prevention and waste minimization strategies
  • Support energy and water conservation initiatives
  • Review capital improvement projects for sustainability impacts
  • Work with environmental personnel across the Domtar mill system
  • Involvement in our local community through volunteer efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in pulp and paper
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Experience with environmental monitoring equipment and data analysis
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification (preferred)
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or similar environmental management systems (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies (preferred)
