About the role

  • Direct and lead operating performance for the Paper Mill Department, including safety, environmental, quality, cost control, productivity, and employee relations and engagement
  • Champion safety, environmental stewardship and quality across the mill’s operating team
  • Develop, implement, and monitor goals and action plans in collaboration with other mill leaders
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency
  • Lead, motivate, and support a high-performing team in a demanding environment
  • Establish clear performance expectations, assist teams in achieving goals, and hold them accountable for delivering results
  • Promote awareness of Nekoosa’s Mission, Vision, and Playbook through communications, meetings, and training programs
  • Support teams in evaluating and resolving operational issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Conduct budget reviews, manage cost improvement plans, and analyze financial data to optimize profitability
  • Engage in long-term planning to create initiatives that advance mill goals and position the mill for maximum profitability
  • Oversee data collection and reporting to achieve productivity targets, reduce unit costs, eliminate errors, and ensure quality performance
  • Drive execution in all areas of the business unit, ensuring accountability for results
  • Maintain visibility on the plant floor, fostering two-way communication with employees
  • Communicate goals, performance, and results to peers, superiors, and corporate stakeholders
  • Lead annual and long-term capital planning processes, championing critical projects for the department
  • Understand the drivers of business results and develop goals for the team that reduce costs and maximize results for the mill and Domtar
  • Provide guidance to new product development team to manipulate machine operations to achieve desired output

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
  • 10 years of experience in Paper Machines operations
  • 10 years of leadership experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
  • Proven expertise in continuous improvement principles and techniques
  • Experience with unions and labor relations
