About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Convey freight to and from trailers and storage areas by hand or with forklifts and hand trucks
- Load and unload freight according to DOT requirements
- Sort and secure items on trucks or the dock to prevent damage
- Handle cartons, bags, cylinders, boxes, crates, drums, pipe, bars, rugs, and other materials
- Use forklifts, carts, dollies, banding machines, shrink wrap tubes, pallet jacks, and tow motors
- Complete frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, carrying, bending, reaching, and lifting
- Work safely and professionally to reduce risks to self and fellow employees
- Comply with federal, state, and company regulations
- Process all job-related paperwork daily
- Perform other duties as directed or requested
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum age of 18
- High School completion or equivalent
- Must pass a non-Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and functional screen
- Must consent to a pre-employment drug screen and receive a negative result
- Ability to read and write English and perform simple mathematical calculations
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently and 100+ lbs. infrequently
- Must consent to a ten-year work-history check; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained and may require documentation
- Physically capable of operating a forklift, pallet jack, load lock, and two-wheel handcart
- Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to safely enter and exit trailers, vans, flatbeds, forklifts, and tractors
- Ability to work around and operate motorized equipment
- Ability to perform essential job functions in extreme hot or cold temperatures and dusty dock conditions
- Must be available and willing to work; exceptions require management approval
